London Civic Places, Part 2

Date

June 2018

Project type

We had such a great time exploring Southbank that we’re hosting another Explorer’s Day in a new corner of London!

We’re calling together a team of urban investigators to uncover, observe, and record London’s civic spaces. Join our crew at the British Library, where we’ll depart on a mission to document the surrounding indoor and outdoor spaces that perform a civic function.

Each adventurer will be equipped with a toolkit, map, and set of challenges to help them scratch the surface of local sites. We ask that you bring a camera, brolly, comfy clothing, snacks, and a curious mind. Together we’ll explore galleries, transit stations, educational buildings, coffee shops, cinemas and more, measuring their sense of publicness by looking at factors including accessibility, diversity of users, and governance. We will end the day in a local pub, sharing our findings and thoughts over a drink.

Time: 12.00 – 4.00PM, followed by a quick trip to the pub
Meeting place: courtyard of the British Library
